Carmen Ottens - 25 years old- www.carmenottens.com

Elegant, enchanting, confident, peaceful, beautiful.

What made you want to start blogging?

I’m a makeup artist, and I thought “hey, maybe I should create a blog where I show my work” then three posts later, it was all about my daily outfits.

When do you feel most beautiful?

When I’m healthy. I have struggled with health problems ever since I can remember, and when I feel good and I know everything is in order, I feel amazing and beautiful.

Has becoming a successful blogger affected the amount you think about your appearance? If yes, how so?

Of course! I think I’m a harsh critic of myself and whenever I post a picture on instagram or my blog, I’m like, “Oh boy, are they going to think I look weird or is my hair ok?” I try not to think about it too often, but I would be lying if I said it hasn’t affected me at all.

How much do you think your success as a blogger is tied to your physical appearance?

I think Fashion/Style bloggers kind of depend on appearances.

Have you ever struggled with a lack of confidence? If so, how did you get through it?

Yes, it’s so embarrassing, but ever since I broke my nose I’ve been self conscious about it, but at the same time I’m so scared to go under the knife! I’ve come to terms that it just makes me more unique looking!

What are 5 things you love about yourself?

I’m smart
I’m independent
my hair (obsessed with it haha)
my legs
my skin tone

What made you want to be a part of The Stripped Project?

I believe every woman is beautiful, I truly do... And with that being said, I’m all about empowering woman to feel comfortable in their own skin!

How did you feel being in front of the camera with no make-up on?

Nervous at first, but you did such a good job at making me feel comfortable that I completely forgot about it!

How do you maintain positive self-esteem while being involved in social media?

I try to only look at the positive side of things, even if its hard at times. Luckily, I’ve never gotten rude comments on my blog or instagram, and for that I’m grateful! But I guess just take everything as it comes!

Have you ever felt pressure to look and act a certain way on social media?

When I first started blogging I felt pressure coming from everywhere, but as got the hang of things, I’m completely myself and sometimes I post embarrassing stuff. I’m sure of it. Sometimes I write something, post it and then I come back and read it and I’m like, “Carmen, you weirdo” ha I love it.

How do you feel social media can be used to empower women?

For some reason the first thing that popped into my head was the movie “Mean Girls” and the quote, “I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school... I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy... “ yup, laugh at me, but why use social media in bad ways, when we can all help each other grow!
